I have always liked working in wood, with its infinite variety, grain and form, which often suggests what is to be found inside. All the materials I use have been rescued, found or recycled and I’m still using up pieces of timber that have been sitting in my store for up to 30 or more years. I stored up a lot after the great non hurricane of 1987. I often try to keep natural features and areas which are effectively decayed, so giving myself a hard time, over-aged material being harder to work and to preserve. I also like to use the dug up roots of trees. A number of pieces incorporate non wood substances such as copper, lead, iron and paint and these are included in the gallery below.
